- The machine is driven onto the tracks
- The rail wheels are applied hydraulically from the driver’s cab
- Rail operation uses the same controls as with crawler operation
EW160E RAIL is basically a road and off-road excavator that has been adapted to allow work on rails.
When the machine is operating on railway track the normal rubber wheels are utilised to drive it, while the rail wheels keep the machine on the track.
The rail cassettes are mounted on quick fits. The hydraulic lines for raising and lowering the rail wheels have quick couplings; this means that the rail cassettes can be easily disconnected, allowing the machine to be quickly turned back into a normal excavator.
The machine can be ordered with its original dozer blade modified for mounting in the front quick fit when the rail cassette is not in use. A grading bucket can be mounted on the front rail cassette to store loose tools. The bucket can also be mounted directly onto the quick fit.
